Sunnyvale Films is a film club which shows documentaries each Thursday evening, followed by a discussion about any issues it raises. The films we choose usually focus on informative and controversial topics. These events aim to bring people together who are interested in the charting of a way through the rapidly changing nature of our society and world.
We think community is our best direction, community created at the grassroots. There are a number of small initiatives afoot in West Auckland and we hope that our weekly events can facilitate some local networking in that direction.
The films are documentaries, or movie-dramatisation of the facts. They have been selected for the impact of their content, often from experts who contradict the assumptions of our popular views – perhaps on subjects which were not of any to you interest beforehand.
Topics are generalised into categories:
- Environment/ Food
- Dispossesion/ Debt
- Democracy/ Empire
- Land/ Community
However, the subject topics often overlap into different categories, as do the global problems themselves at different levels.
Always check the more link to make sure the film is about what you think it is.
